Descriptions

Our organization hopes to provide you opportunities to grow and accomplish your personal goals by hosting a variety of events throughout the semester. Below are brief descriptions of the various types, to help you find what attracts you the most.

A-Z Meetings

A-Z Meetings

Our A-Z Meeting is for students who are interested in learning more about the field of Supply Chain Management. The meeting involves a discussion led by Dr. Victor Wayhan as he outlines the degree requirements of the major as well as the different parts of Supply Chain that a student could be involved in. The meeting is an excellent way to discover if the major is right for you.

Note: A-Z Meeting is a prerequisite for our Student Development Program.

Bake Sales

Bake Sales

521283_579517778727015_2108860666_n
ISM bake sales are events held three times a year at Melcher Hall during class hours. The purpose of these events is for fundraising, raising student awareness of the organization, and most importantly allowing members the opportunity to network informally in a context that puts them in close contact with other members and officers. Bake sales also give members the chance to invest a part of themselves in ISM’s efforts, whether it be donating time or offering up one of their culinary specialties. It is one of the few events held all day, allowing members the flexibility of contributing when it is most ideal.

Career Fair

Career Fair

The Career Fair is a brand-new event offered by ISM Bauer for fall semesters. The fair consists of recruiters who are looking exclusively for Supply Chain majors in a setting that is more private than a regular gathering.

Career Mixers

Career Mixers

397848_10151712237967018_79584489_nCareer Mixer are one of ISM Bauer’s main membership benefits. This enables our students to have direct access to Corporate Partners that are recruiting students for Internships and Full-time positions. All members have an equal chance of attending a mixer as long as they submit their resume on time in the correct SCM Major resume format to the Corporate Development Officer. Format of the Mixer: Each company sits at a round table. As you sit, you will meet and interview with the first company along with 5-7 other students. Each session is about ½ hour, and after the ½ hour elapses, you and your assigned group of 5-7 other students will move to the next table and meet with new company for another session. This process is repeated until your group has sat at every table.

General Meetings

General Meetings

525436_556283054383821_291322296_nGeneral Meetings (GM) are one of the main events of ISM Bauer. Each GM includes a guest speaker from a world renowned corporation to educate us about their companies culture, industry knowledge, and supply chain department. At the meeting food will be provided as well as a great opportunity to meet fellow SCM Major Students. We also encourage looking up information about the companies before hand to have good background knowledge and be able to ask relevant questions.

ISM-Houston Dinners

ISM-Houston Dinners

ISM Dinner meetings are held by our parent chapter at the Sheraton Hotel off of Highway 290 & I610. Held on the second Tuesday of every month @ 6:00 P.M., the events are an excellent networking opportunity as attendees hail from all over Houston and work in diverse fields. Members who attend are given a special discount on their meal and are treated to a guest speaker presentation.

Note: Members are required to RSVP for Dinner Meetings the Thursday before the event.

Philanthropy

Philanthropy

Philanthropy events are a way for us to give back to the community in which we live. It also gives us a way to interact with each other and improve teamwork skills. This year we have partnered with Trees for Houston, a local non-profit that plants trees at local schools, and parks to beautify the community an provide a greener healthier World.

Plant Tours

Plant Tours

8226983511_e79a994477_nBy attending plant tours you will have the opportunity to see each company’s processes and how they benefit the world. This is also a chance for you to learn how Supply Chain relates to every aspect of their business as well as a chance to ask specific questions about the company and the industry.

Tailgates

Tailgates

Part of being a Coog means supporting your team. The University of Houston has a long standing tradition of being the premiere Division I college football team in the Houston area. Tailgates are a way for you to interact with your fellow ISM members on game day in a fun and casual environment where we can come together to support our team. Tailgates will consist of snacks/beverages and music, and encourage networking opportunities outside of the classroom. What better way to spend your game day experience than with ISM Bauer?

Socials

Socials

At ISM, we believe effective networking is done face-to-face. Socials are hosted by ISM after each general meeting and give members an opportunity to meet the officer team while establishing long term relationships with fellow SCM majors. They are a great way to build solid connections throughout the industry.

Student Development Workshops

Student Development Workshops

534931_559485414063585_535387934_nISM Bauer’s Student Development Program, or SDP, is engineered to provide our student members at the University of Houston with relevant information in respect to professionalism, interview preparation, and the supply chain industry; while focusing on the development of interpersonal, or “soft”, skills. The SDP’s intent is to assist our student members during their transition from a college student to a young supply chain professional.

Workshop 1: Career Preparation Workshop – This workshop is geared towards helping students understand more about the attributes and values; while touching on resume help and focusing on professionalism.

Workshop 2: Career Management Workshop – This workshop is strictly focused on the supply chain industry, as well as some certificates that are available to improve our student’s supply chain knowledge; which will appeal to recruiters and hiring managers.

Workshop 3: Personal Presentations – This workshop is the capstone of our program. It is dedicated to our student member’s presentations, which allows them to demonstrate where they want their careers to go, but more importantly, what they have learned in the program.
